Beyond Gravity
After staying forty days with His followers, Jesus lifted off from the earth like an arrow that keeps rising. He broke loose from earth’s gravity and ascended to the throne of Heaven.
… and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven (Luke 24:50-51).
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven“ (Acts 1:9-11).
Jesus’ rise to Heaven does not mark the story’s end. At the Father’s side, He continues to “intercede”—to speak to God the Father in our favor—to bring us home safely. He sends His Spirit to ensure our success. He also promises to return and complete the story of the Good News, with the best ending of all.
… he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25).
… so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him (Hebrews 9:28).
